Capcom officially cancels Mega Man Legends 3, also officially stupid

Incoming bloodthirsty rage in 3…2…1…

So you might’ve heard rumblings around the internet that Mega Man Legends 3 was getting canned. Well your fears are confirmed, fellow gamers. It turned out true.

Capcom officially came out and said that Mega Man Legends 3 has ceased development, and that there are no plans to ever restart the project. Not even that Prototype version they said would be release on the eShop will not see the light of day.

When asked about the exact reason WHY it was cancelled, Capcom’s official answer was extremely vague, saying that “Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria”.

Now, I know this is a news article but I have to say this.

Capcom, you really can’t be serious. After all the hype and all the community participation in the development process, this is all you have to say? What, you’re too scared to say that it’s because you think the 3DS isn’t a profitable platform because your Resident Evil rehash didn’t sell? Because all you want to do is regurgitate the same Street Fighter and Resident Evil games while ruining franchises like Devil May Cry?

Like seriously, Capcom. Why?

MML3 had a lot of potential. So much so that you let Legends fans everywhere help decide what would go in the game. All the Devroom stuff that was done was an insanely great way to not only let the community take part in the creation of this game, but also made sure that the game would be up to snuff.

You were even going to let us play an early version of the game how many months before release! Nobody does that for single player games, or on a portable platform for that matter.

And then what? You just throw all that away? I understand that this kind of action always happens in the industry. Games get cancelled all the time. But after having the community influence so much of the game’s development and then suddenly saying “NOPE” to them is illogical to the highest degree. It’s not even that Mega Man Legends 3 wouldn’t have sold well. I know damn sure that it would. Nearly every Mega Man fan I know has been waiting for a Legends sequel for years. They would give their left testicle (or ovary) for it.

You DO NOT announce a sequel to a game that fans have been begging for for ages, build tons of hype, show off a demo that looks complete, have the fans actively involved in its creation, and then cancel it. That is INDEFENSIBLE. INEXCUSABLE. So I ask you, Capcom, to either tell us that this is all a bad joke, or just admit that you have no idea what the hell you’re doing anymore. Saying that “it just didn’t look good enough to us guys lol” is a slap to the face for Mega Man and Capcom fans everywhere.

Good day.
